Jonathan's Story

Jonathan Rodríguez does more than just brew coffee: he engineers sustainable businesses. As a professional coffee roaster and Coffee Business and Finance Architect, his specialty lies in applying corporate finance directly to the specialty coffee sector.

He empowers local and international investors to structure business models with a high return on investment, focusing not merely on preparing coffee, but on building companies that are fundamentally profitable, sustainable, and scalable.

Raising Local Standards

Alongside his wife, Johanna, Jonathan has been a true pioneer of coffee education in El Salvador. Together, they run Academia Barista Pro, an educational hub that has fundamentally raised the technical standards of the local industry whilst training and certifying hundreds of students.

His 360-degree vision of the coffee value chain makes him the definitive consultant for retail operations, advising ambitious professionals on workflow optimization and the selection of high-end machinery to ensure flawless operational execution from day one.

Making Variables Visible

Inside the lab, Jonathan is a "roast master" with a profound mastery of heat transfer science. This technical rigor is exactly why Academia Barista Pro relies on the R2 Pro for their premier roasting courses. His technical guidance ensures that local roasters can establish quality control protocols that meet the most rigorous demands of the international market and get SCA Certifications in that process.

"Using the R2 pro in ABP allows us to make the invisible variables visible for our students. We aren't just teaching them how to roast; we are teaching them how to take absolute control of their product and, ultimately, secure the quality in their offerings and secure the financial success of their business."

Bar Engineering

His highly analytical approach also extends to the global competitive stage. As a high-performance competition strategist, Jonathan leverages what he calls "Bar Engineering" to mentor baristas. Through meticulous logistics and training, he helps competitors achieve the elite technical precision and consistency required to excel at World Coffee Events (WCE).

Jonathan proves that with the right tools and the right mentorship, El Salvador's coffee community is perfectly equipped to compete—and win—on the global stage.
